Waste Assessment - Free
Help maximize your service options and reduce trash. Determine the most cost-effective solid waste management options with a FREE on-site assessment from Waste Management. Battery Recycling - Free
For Cart-based Recycling - place household batteries (AAA, AA, B, C, D & small button batteries), including rechargeable and cell phone batteries in a clear plastic bag, seal shut & tape to the top of the gray recyclables cart.
For Bin-based Recycling – Property owners/managers can call Waste Management at (510) 613-8710 for information.
CFL Collection - Free
Waste Management and the City of Emeryville are providing free WM LampTracker Mercury VaporLok bags for CFL collection and a mail back pre-paid postage box. Property owners/managers can call Waste Management at (510) 613-8710 or e-mail [email protected] to obtain LampTracker material.
Holiday Tree Recycling Pickup - Free
All multi-family properties are eligible for holiday tree pickup during the first two weeks of January. Service is dependent on the size and location of the property. Only clean trees will be picked up: no “snow” flocking, stands or decorations. Trees must be cut to less than 5 feet tall.
All multi-family dwellings of 4 or more units have the option of:
1. Setting trees curbside
2. Setting trees in the centralized trash/recycling area, or
3. Ordering a roll-off box at no charge.

Large Property Service - Owners/managers of large properties may call Waste Management at (510) 613-8710 to receive a Free roll-off box for holiday tree-cycling.
Household Hazardous Waste (HHW)
HHW Drop-off Center is located at 2100 East 7th St., Oakland. The facility is open every Thursday, Friday and Saturday except for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s week - 9am-1pm. Available to all Alameda County residents and no appointment is needed. For more information & schedule, call (800) 606-6606 or visit www.household-hazwaste.org.
On-Call Bulky - Free
All multi-family properties are eligible for bulky item pickup. Service is dependent on the size and location of the property. Property owners/managers can call Waste Management at (510) 613-8710 to schedule a collection. Watch for guidelines in the mail.
Mandatory Recycling
The State of California and Alameda County Waste Management Authority (ACWMA) require businesses, institutions, and multi-family properties with 5+ units to sort their waste and implement recycling and organics collection programs. Contact Waste Management at 510-613-8700 for assistance with services.
- AB 341: Requires recyclables be separated from the trash (landfill).
- AB 1826: Requires organics be separated from the trash (landfill).
- AB 827: Requires certain businesses to make labeled recycling and organics containers available to customers.
- Alameda County Mandatory Recycling Ordinance: Requires businesses to implement recycling and organics collection services. ACWMA can impose fines for not having the required services and/or for not sorting waste properly.
