Q. What time do I place my cart(s) at the curb?
A. Please place your carts at the curb by 5 a.m. on the day of your service.
Q. What is the proper way to set up my cart(s) at the curb?
A. Do not overfill your cart(s), lids must close, set carts three (3) feet apart and away from objects such as cars and mailboxes and place carts at curb with handles facing away from the street.
Q. How often is trash collected?
A. Trash is collected weekly.
Q. How often is recycling and yard waste collected?
A. Recycling and yard waste carts are collected every other week.
Q. How do I know what day my waste, and if applicable, my recycling and yard waste are collected?
A. There are two ways to learn what your collection day is: (1) call customer service at (530) 893-4777 or (2) register your Waste Management account online and look up your service day through the EZ Pay system, click here to visit the Ez Pay site.

Q. What yard waste items are acceptable at the curb?
A. The acceptable green waste materials include: grass clippings, leaves, flowers, wood branches, and untreated lumber.
Q. What recyclable items are acceptable at the curb?
A. The acceptable recyclable materials include: paper, newspaper, magazines, junk mail, glass bottles, glass jars, aluminum cans, steel cans, plastics #1-7 (all hard plastics), cardboard, and paperboard.
Q. Do I need to rinse out my recyclables prior to placing them in my recycling cart?
A. All containers should be empty. Food and liquids spoil the recyclability of paper and cardboard. If necessary, rinse out containers to eliminate food and any risk of wildlife scavenging.
Q. What will happen if I use my recycling and yard waste carts as a trash cart?
A. Trash can ruin an entire load of recyclables and yard waste. Therefore, if you place trash in your recycling or yard waste carts, you will be billed for additional trash collection. This charge will appear on your next bill.
Q. Recycling and yard waste are provided in my area, do I have to recycle?
A. Recycling is not mandated. However, recycling and yard waste are part of the basic residential rates and lack of participation will not result in a price reduction for service.
Q. If recycling and yard waste aren’t provided in my area, but I would like to have these services, what can I do?
A. If you are interested in adding recycling and yard waste collection, please call customer service at (530) 893-4777. Local management will then determine if recycling and yard waste can be serviced in your area and notify you.
Q. How do I utilize the bulky waste program?
A. Subscribing customers received five (5) coupons/stickers per year for bulky waste collection at no charge. A coupon/sticker must accompany each bulky waste item. Customers may schedule up to two collections per year, for a total of five (5) items per year. Coupons are not valid after the calendar year. Call customer service at (530) 893-4777 to schedule your bulky waste pickup.
Q. Should I set out my carts if they’re not full?
A. Your trash cart should be set out weekly. If applicable, you may wait until your recycling and yard waste carts are full before setting them out on your scheduled Recycling collection day.
Q. Can I use carts other than the carts provided by Waste Management?
A. The Butte County residential franchise agreement requires use of Waste Management carts. The carts are serviced by automated collection trucks; other containers do not work with our trucks.
Q. What if I want an additional cart or different size?
A. If you decide you need a different cart size(s), please contact customer service, (530) 893-4777, to discuss your options and rates.
Q. What happens if a cart is stolen or damaged?
A. Contact customer service by calling (530) 893-4777 to replace or repair your cart.
Q. What should I do with my carts if I move?
A. Call customer service at (530) 893-4777 to cancel service as you may be responsible for carts if they are lost or stolen.
Q. How do I clean my cart?
A. If you want to clean your cart, simply rinse and allow to dry.
Q. What do I do if I miss my pickup?
A. Call customer service at (530) 893-4777 to schedule a special pickup for an additional charge. Or wait until your next service day and leave your extra bagged waste at the curb for an additional pickup charge.

A. Managing your account is easy. There are three options to pay your bill: (1) Register your Waste Management account online and pay your bill through the EZ Pay system, click here (2) mail in your payment, or (3) pay your bill in person at the Waste Management of North Valley office.

A. The Butte County Landfill and Neal Road Recycling & Waste Facility’s hours of operation are: Monday through Sunday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. The site is closed on New Year’s Day, Easter, Fourth of July, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
