Waste Management (WM) of Arizona has proudly served Arizona communities for 55 years. Our 2,352 local team members, including 188 Veterans, working at 39 sites across the state, take great pride in serving our Arizona customers and creating cleaner, greener neighborhoods for their friends, families, and neighbors today and every day.
Committed to Communities
WM is proud to support the communities we serve. In 2019, we supported more than 90 organizations and events. Also, WM Maricopa County employees donated $82,000 to support Valley of the Sun United Way.
Waste Management Phoenix Open
The Waste Management Phoenix Open is the largest zero waste sporting event, verified by UL for the past seven years. It is carbon neutral and powered entirely by renewable sources. WM sponsors Bonneville Environmental Foundation’s Change the Course initiative to conserve our valuable water resources. Through this program, more than 320 million gallons of water have been restored to the Arizona Verde River Valley. The 2019 WMPO generated $13.2 million for 200+ Arizona based charities in 2019, including $155,000 for four environmental groups raised on Green Out Day.
Focused on Clean Energy
We operate a LEED®-certified material recovery facility in Surprise and our Northwest Regional Landfill is turning landfill gas into electricity to power 2,400 Arizona homes annually. In 2019, we opened a compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling station in Goodyear to support our growing CNG fleet. Our 268 clean CNG trucks reduce diesel use by 2,144,000 gallons and cut 3,752 tons of greenhouse gas emissions each year.
Keeping Arizona Green
Last year we recycled more than 60,674 tons of bottles, cans, paper and cardboard in Arizona. Recycling these materials saved:
- 520,000 mature trees
- 291 million gallons of water
- 154 million kWh of electricity
